Soluble fiber is being used to treat inflammatory intestinal disease, for control of diarrhea and in irritable bowel syndrome.

 Nature's Sunshine includes the following herbs and nutrients that exert beneficial effects on the digestive and the immune systems. Short-chain Fructooligosaccharides (SCFOS)-dietary fiber Slippery elm Flax meal Marshmallow Apple pectin Peppermint leaf Fennel Chamomile Uña de Gato Asparagus Many of these are high in mucilage, allowing them to offer demulcent and soothing effects on the gastrointestinal tract. Pectin is an important polysaccharide with the ability to form gel. Peppermint aids digestion and has been shown to have carminative and antispasmodic properties. Uña de gato supports the immune system. SCFOS has been shown to help with both diarrhea and constipation.
